Altamente recomendado.

Negative Standards / Whitehorse split review

Altamente recomendado.

Northless – World Keeps Sinking

Huata / Bitcho split

Released by MusicFearSatan on March 22, it comes in clear purple with red and blue streaks with an amazing cover art done by Benjamin Moreau (HUATA).

The split starts with the side of Huata, a french band that have a few years in the doom scene but lately has been more known thanks to their first full length ¨Atavist of Mann¨ released over a year ago.  They contribute two new songs in the same line of occult stoner / doom metal with higher doses of  psychedelics, the band has gain skills to write more creative songs thanks to their live rituals. I´m thinking this is the best exposure of the band so far, if you believe Atavist of Mann was all they can give, that was only the beginning.

In the other side is Bitchot from the southern lowlands, a six-piece band that released their debut album ¨Toybox¨ 4 years ago and since then Bitcho haven´t do any new recordings. If you are new to this band, i´m pretty sure you’ll become a fan of them easily, Drone/Doom Metal very repetitive and loud with psychedelic sounds, voice effects included, all together sounds superb and they can be compared with bands like Cough or Windhand.

Props to the label for put this two bands in the same record and congrats to the bands.

Requests from bands vol.4

Nerves – Nerves

These guys comes from Minneapolis, Minnesota and their debut ep was released a few weeks ago. If you are into bands like Converge, Botch or The Dillinger Escape Plan, you really need to listen this band. Highly recommended.

Holy – The Age of Collapse

HOLY fuck, these italians are back with a new lp released through the german label Adagio 830. This is the follow up from their self-titled 12 inch released on Hell, Yes!… the result of  their fourteen new tracks is devastating, they continue in the same line of black hardcore/punk with hints of crust/powerviolence and political lyrics. If you are into Trash Talk, Punch or DNF, you should definetely give a listen to this band, highly recommended.

Revengeance – Complacent  Complacency

Revengeance is a five piece power-violence locomotive. Taking it’s first steps in 2011, and already with three releases under their belts, Revengeance took the punk scene by storm with its unique blend of 80´s hardcore, proto-grindcore and all the cult 90´s power-violence bands, and adding a sprinkle of “fuck off” attitude. In just one year they managed to play all the key Portuguese festivals and support slots for some overseas acts. Expect angry female/male vocals, fast drumming and loud guitars. The band is in its essence a tribute to power-violence. Give it a try or fuck off.

A Thousand Words – Sinners

After some line up changes and a demo in 2009, the band did several shows in Portugal opening for such hardcore acts like: Shai Hulud, Anchor, Soul Control, No Turning Back, Rise and Fall, For the Glory and Devil in Me to name a few, the band also did some weekends in Spain and an European tour in 2010 to promote their demo.  Drinking influences from bands like Unbroken, Damnation A.D. and Rise and Fall the boys recorded their recent EP in 2012 titled “SINNERS”.

Romero – Take The Potion

Romero’s first full length has been released on January, thanks to a kickstar campaign the album will be released as vinyl. The cd version can be ordered from their bigcartel page as well as other merch. These folks keep  playing stoner metal full of fuzzy riffages and psychedelics passages, it’s not a total stoner metal record cause  they bring the darkness and heaviness of doom metal which gives to their sound another direction. If you roll into stoner metal or doom metal, Take The Potion is what you need nowadays, highly recommended.

I´m working on a huge band request post, is the easiest way to finish with all the requests. Have been listening most of the bands requests, some of them will appear soonish, some other not. Thanks for share your music with mvsicasheroin.

New records from Throatruiner

Throatruiner is a french record label very active, a proof of that is the four records coming out in the next months of bands like Primitive Man, The Phantom Carriage, Cortez and Vuyvr… blackened music to this dehumanized society.

So, i’m gonna start with the second album of  The Phantom Carriage, ¨Falls¨ contains 8 tracks, each one shaped with their own poison of dark hardcore and black metal, nothing new nowadays but these guys takes their music to the most extreme side of their sound.

¨”Falls” brings the band’s unique approach to the next level, invoking reminiscences of various acts such as Deathspell Omega, Cave In, Comity, Deafheaven or Kickback. Songs such as “Dreamers Will Never Stop Dreaming” or “Today We Stand” reveal how much the band has improved their songwriting abilities, burying the listener under piles of epic & technical riffs, labyrinthic structures and unearthly vocals. By throwing into their chaos some more unorthodox influences they gained from their other past and actual experiences, THE PHANTOM CARRIAGE prove that they are digging deeper than your average “blackened hardcore” band. And they will take you with them.¨

Bandcamp | Download

Trying to determine why Vuyvr’s debut album “Eiskalt” is a stimulating and refreshing take on black metal is not an easy task. Hailing from Switzerland, their sound initially appears to be rather traditional, obviously influenced by a number of Norwegian and Swedish meisters of the genre. Beneath an impeccable flow and as the record will start to grow on you, you’ll notice subtle, personal touches which contribute to a large extent to the record’s peculiar charm. There’s majestic breakdowns who are wonderful but not strictly metallic (“Betrayers Of The North”), stellar dual guitars equally breathing of heavy metal and post rock (“Dead Trees Will Wander At Night”). The vocals are crisp but not exaggerated, conveying immediacy. The primitive pounding of the drums resonates the naive fury of extreme metal’s early days… Devil is in the details indeed and apparently Vuyvr have inherited the unorthodox class that characterizes their country’s metal tradition (Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Samael, Coroner…). Having excelled in the ranks of seminal underground acts such as Knut, Impure Wilhelmina, Rorcal, Elizabeth, they are not preoccupied by what the purists will think of them. They are devoted to sonic darkness and it’s all that matters. Less than a year after their initial racket, the band rushed into their practice space and recorded 9 tracks within a day that would eventually become “Eiskalt”.

Bandcamp | Download

With this album Cortez is again proving that you can get out of the habitual pattern of power trio (guitar, drums and voice), and still burps noise-hardcore fury and incandescent anger. The band recently reorganized itself with the arrival of Antoine Tinguely on the guitar (ex-Berserk For Tea Time), Samuel Vaney, former guitarist, is now supporting the band as composer / mixer. Recorded partly in the REC Studio of Serge Morattel in Geneva, drums, and partly in their own rehearsal space, guitars and vocals, this new album is the result of hard work, giving the band big freedom in creation and the possibility to fully assume the production process. Complete independence in learning, creating and finalizing the record. “Phoebus” reaffirms the taste of Cortez for saturation, but also explores a wide range of possibilities. Like a threatening and corrosive mist the aggressive sound still remains intense, melancholic and emotional.

Bandcamp

Fronted by Ethan McCarthy of notable grind acts Clinging to the Trees of a Forest Fire and Death of Self, Denver, Colorado’s PRIMITIVE MAN play some sort of blackened sludge/doom with hints of drone and d-beat in the vein of bands such as The Body, Thou or Khanate. An earth-shattering, bleak wall of crushing dissonance and pure sonic heaviness : “Scorn” is only the band’s debut full-length, but it already sounds like one of the heaviest and most brutal records you’ll hear for a while. Thirty nine minutes of pure, unrelenting destruction that will leave you bruised and bleeding.

Nonsun – Good Old Evil

Ukraine | 2012 | Self-released

1. Jesus’ Age
2. Rain Have Mercy
3. Message Of Nihil Carried By The Waves Of The Big Bang
4. Forgotten Is What Never Was

Nonsun is two piece band from Lviv,Ukraine, they were formed around 2011. On december it was released their debut ep which contains four tracks in about 48 minutes. What you’ll find here is a doom metal infected by droning riffs that will make bleed your ears, tracks filled with feedbacks and bluesy riffs at some parts, all this things makes a solid demo, even if there’s a shitload of bands playing as dark as they can these guys have done something more than just play heavy, you need to listen carefully so you can discover hidden sounds. Highly recommended. [Bndrqst]

Sea Bastard – Sea Bastard

cover

Origin: United Kingdom

Genre: Doom metal / Sludge

Label: Unsigned

From the cradle of doom comes Sea Bastard, this band was formed last year from the ashes of Jovian and Funeral Hag. They say their music is the mixture of both bands, but if you don’t know their past bands it doesn’t matter cause you don’t need to hear the full album to enjoy their groovy/bluesy sludgy doom metal, from the beginning you feel that heavyweight riff hitting your brain with their fuzzy vibes and the harsh vocals fits perfect, plus the drums is played precise and meaner, giving a more obscure sound, all in conjunct sounds great.

This is their first album recorded and features five songs passing the 10 minutes each, it never turns boring, if you really enjoy doom metal you’ll love this record. The self-titled album its up on bandcamp as free download, a physical release will be available soon, so it rest to say go to their bandcamp page and get this now while you can. Highly recommended.

Hush – Untitled I

Origin: United States

Genre: Ambient / Doom / Noise / Sludge metal

Label: Unsigned

Hush comes from Albany, New York and this is their first album recorded. It’s not easy describe music that haves a variety of genres getting mixed, but their main idea focuses on sludge metal with doom metal, its metallic but not technical like Admiral Angry or Black Sheep of Wall, at times it sounds similar to that kind of bands but these guys offers something like Thou, not with the highly post-rock influences, but you clearly hear some ambient/drone passages that turns atmospheric.

If you like the bands mentioned above, you should check out this guys, its worth the listen.

Bell Witch – Longing

Origin: United States
Genre: Doom Metal
Label: Profound Lore Records
Bell Witch has released their first full length through Profound Lore Records this november, is now able in the states but worldwide is getting released on 11/13, vinyl version is getting released by Flenser Records.
This band easily become famous with their demo, and why easily, think it was probably top demo of the year, after hearing their four-track ep you started to think who are these guys, and why they created something like this, not questioning the band existence, just releasing how great bell witch sounds, an obscure sound you have tolisten, doom metal with funeral doom influences, done by bassist/vocalist Dylan Desmond (Samothrace & Lethe) and drummer/vocalist Adrian Guerra (Lethe).
¨Longing¨ contains six tracks of the same distorted bass that spreads down-tuned riffages of sadness and depression, filled with heavy minimalistic drums, an excellent album that can´t be missed in this doomed existence. Highly recommended.

Switchblade – S/T

Origin: Sweden
Genre: Doom metal
Label: Denovali Records
¨The adjustment from trio to duo has been perfected over the course of the last 3 years and this album is the fruit of that labor. Switchblade is taking one big step forward and two steps backward.  In three monumental movements, that spans over a period of 37 minutes,  Switchblade plunges into an array of different dynamics. Always ebbing and flowing.
This time joined by Per Wiberg (ex –Opeth, Spiritual Beggars, Clutch, Candlemass) on Hammond organ, The Cuckoo (Terra Tenebrosa) on vocals, David Johansson (Kongh, The Eternal Void) and Lord Seth (Old Katatonia) on vocals.¨-Denovali.

Slomatics – A Hocht

Origin: Ireland
Year: 2012
Genre: Doom metal / Sludge
Tracks: 8
Label: Burning World Records | Head of Crom Records
New eight track album from the irish heavy weight doomsters, slomatics. The band has been active since 2004, heard them for the first time this past year, in one of the best splits from last year for my point of view… you can listen the side of the split with conan in their bandcamp, anyway, like i was saying Slomatics released a new lp through Head of Crom and cd version by Burning Wolrd Records, if you want to read more about each press go to the links below.
¨A Hocht¨ and not of cocaine, its what you should get now, highly recommended.

Fans of Windhand, Electric Wizard or Weedeater, seriously a beast you can´t miss… highly recommended.

Leechfeast – Hideous Illusions

Origin:Slovenia
Year:2012
Genre: Doom metal / Sludge metal
Tracks: 4
Label: Self-released | Shitpiece Records | Ulterior Tapes
Leechfeast comes from Slovenia featuring members of Paperplanecrash, ex-Melete and Acrid Sunday. Their sound is down-tuned, noisy and heavy as fuck, the album starts with a sampler of an exorcism (?)  and then smartly the song starts with a heavy down-tuned riffage with an aggressive vocal, their music reminds me to bands like Grief, Moloch or Thou, definitely the bands will catch your attention, highly recommended.[Band request]

Samothrace – Reverence To Stone

Origin: United States
Year:2012
Genre: Doom metal / Sludge
Tracks: 2
Label: 20 Buck Spin
Reverence To Stone is the band’s new album, a two track 35 minute journey into and out of a vast expanse of dark, light, shadow, heartache, depression and triumph. The 14 minute track ‘When We Emerged’ is an updated version of song that goes back to Samothrace’s demo recording from 2007, the one that attracted the attention of 20 Buck Spin in the first place. Awash in plodding heaviness, shimmery melodicism and the wrought vocals of Bryan Spinks the track has been reborn anew, the full weight of it brought forth.
‘A Horse Of Our Own’ might be considered the centerpiece here. 20 minutes representing the most recent songwriting of the band, showing the level to which Samothrace has advanced in crafting long, slow-building moods and atmospheres but with close attention to memorable song craft and tasteful musicianship. Spinks’ midwestern bluesy soloing comes out more than ever before, complimenting the post-doom riffs in ways only hinted at previously. The adept rhythm section of Dylan Desmond and Joe Axler laying down a cavernous din of physicality and timed precision over which the guitars delicately unwind, interweave and soar.
Reverence To Stone has been a long time coming for Samothrace, and for the following the band inspired in the wake of Life’s Trade. The LP represents a new beginning for the band and a point of departure from which they looks toward the future. Highly recommended.

Eagle Twin – The Feather Tripped the Serpent Scale

Origin:United States
Year: 2012
Genre:Doom metal / Sludge metal
Tracks: 6
Label:Southern Lord Records
So, this guys released a new album few weeks ago, if you haven´t heard nothing about these guys, you should get into this dark duo. Eagle Twin comes from Salt Lake City and they were formed around 2007, their debut album was released in 2009 (The Unkindness of Crows), its a mind blowing record… their new stuff in the veins of their debut lp, a master piece you can´t miss.

Ladybird – Demo 2012

Origin:United States
Year:2012
Genre: Doom metal / Sludge / Stoner metal
Tracks: 3
Label: Self-released
Ladybird, a new stoner doom metal act from Tempe, Arizona. This are their first recording and from the first second you feel their blues/fuzzed-out riffs, with a heavier drums sound… imagine if you mix Sleep´s ¨Holy Mountain¨ and Weedeater´s ¨Sixteen Tons¨, add more fuzz and slow down the music, that´s how i can describe them. Although this is a demo, i think this is some of the best stuff i´ve heard lately, but lets see what they do in the near future, a promising new band if they keep playing like this. Highly recommended.
Things that you will need for a better listen: Weed.

The Body – Self-titled

Origin:United States
Year:2012 (re-released)
Genre: Doom metal / Sludge metal
Tracks: 7
Label:At A Loss Recordings
This album was first released around 2004, it was out of print for a lot of time, in the beginning of 2012 it was re-released by At A Loss Recordings. ¨Nine minutes of crashing cymbals/percussion built upon by slowed samples all over one constant riff accented by distortion. Repetitive grooves with shrieked vocals lead to interludes of piano and upright bass bowing takes the listener to tracks of the sludged-out and the chaotic, instrumental breaks ending with a behemoth 14 minute closer!. If someone is missing this album, get it now, highly recommended.

S:t Erik- From Under The Tarn

Origin:Sweden
Year:2012
Genre: Doom metal / Psychedelic / Stoner
Tracks: 5
Label: Spora Records
S:t Erik comes from Uppsala, Sweden, a five pice band playing psychedelic/stoner doom since 2006. To be honest this is the first time i listen to the band and i was surprised by the great quality of music, ¨From Under The Tarn¨ it´s their first full lengt and this can be some of the best full lenghts of doom, even though there´s a long list of albums that was released this year, this can fight a place in the top 10. Their music is pretty catchy, creating cosmic atmospheres, violent head-banging and overall heavy riffages, an album you can´t let go if you like bands like Acid King, Om, Ufommamut or Electric Wizard. Highly recommended.

Batillus | Whitehorse Split

Doom! and more fucking great doom. This split contains 3 new tracks, two tracks by Batillus and just one by Whitehorse, the number of songs released is not an important fact when music speaks by itself, just get into this heavy down-tuned riffs!. Both bands will tour in June half of the U.S, so if you have a chance to assist, don’t miss this and support foreign bands. Highly recommended.

Aquanaut – Sunken Ark

Origin: Canada
 Year: 2012
Genre: Doom metal | Psychedelic | Stoner metal
Tracks: 4
Label: Unsigned
Aquanaut hails from Vancouver, Canada, this guys are playing doom/stoner metal with a psychedelic sound, the four tracks on “Sunken Ark” clock around 45 mints, the recordings sounds a bit lo-fi, but you get an idea of what they are doing. This is their own description “Emerging from the briny depths of the Atlantic Ocean, Aquanaut burst forth from the water, a juggernaut. Simultaneously fast and slow, sludgy and sleek, Aquanaut is a new kind of force. With one goal in mind, the warrior turns south and begins its final journey; to sink Australia.” . Listen to “Sunken Ark” and “Bong Water River” while you burn one. Recommended.

Old Fuck comes from Chicago, IL and is formed by current members from Ittö, My Dads and The Para-Medics. Old Fuck doesn’t sound like their side projects,  this is some dirty and nasty doom metal/sludge… heavy as fuck, if this had better recordings it’ll sounds much better, listen to them and judge for yourself. Recommended.

“Mana-Yood-Sushai” is the new record by Bong, a drone/doom metal band coming from UK. Just two songs and 46 minutes in total, really long tracks but they never turn boring, their massive sound hypnotize. I’ve not listen all the records from them, i think i first heard “Gilgamesh Lives” and later “Beyond Ancient Space”, liked both records, no doubt, but the recordings were more dirty, maybe because they wanted to keep sounding loud in the recording… “Mana-Yood-Sushai” recordings sounds sick, it’s more cleaner  and it’s the same stoner ritual drone/doom metal stuff, now you hear more clear the psychedelic passages, love this album, highly recommended.

Most of the people who listen BSW know/talk about this record. I don’t know why it took me a lot to post this album, but better late than never, ha!.  For those who haven’t heard this band, i’m going to make it more clear and easy for you… they don’t need upside down crosses in the cover art (or in their name)  to let people know they play heavy, no trends, just fucking heavy music, give them a listen and if you can, go and see them live. Highly recommended.

Iron Mtn, a band from Los Angeles you should check out. These guys have played already with 16, Black Cobra, Zoroaster… just to name a few, don’t know why they released something before but this self titled ep is something you should play after work, during the smoke session. The 4 tracks starts downtuned/stoner/psychedelic and it ends the same, it’s an instrumental band and i don’t care about that, vocals are no needed. For fans of Electric Wizard, Black Sabbath, Cough or Zoroaster., highly recommended, headbanging in slow motion.
You can download this for free at their bandcamp, but remember this, hand numbered limit edition of 100 copies only , act fast.

Once again Conan give us a master piece of Doom metal, this is their new album and is going to be able through Burning World Records as cd and lp, they also have packages of t-shirts with cd/lp, so go and grab a copy before they gone. After “Horseback Battle Hammer” they released a split with Slomatics, i was looking for more since that split and here it’s… damn, almost 40 mints clocks “Monnos” and i can put this on repeat for a couple of times. Enjoy the apocalypse theme songs, highly recommended.

Crown is a two piece band, just two guitars and a machine, they started in summer of 2011, this is their debut ep and you should give this a listen. Prepare your ears for slow tempos, dark atmospheres and heavyweights riffs, also at times it sounds more like post-metal and the samplers fits perfect, for real this can be the most interesting thing of the genre this year, well, some of the most, because other things will come and more things have been released. However, sometimes words are useless, so go to their bandcamp and take a listen, also you can grab a limited copy (300 only) of this ep. Highly recommended.

“Named after the most inhuman battle in the First World War, VERDUN (Montpellier – France) are one of those bands that are hard to label, merging the lines between sludge/doom and slowed-down dark hardcore. Heavy and dry riffing, neck-breaking groove, incantatory vocals and a strong psychedelic feel, that’s what you can expect from the half-hour of their debut EP “The Cosmic Escape Of Admiral Masuka”. Carrying a strong live reputation, VERDUN is definitely one of those bands to watch for any fan of Burning Witch, Electric Wizard, or Amenra; and by extension anything dark and crushing.” Throatruiner Records. Once again a new french band builds up an amazing ep and i hope this year they show us a full length or another record, give this a listen, i’m pretty sure you will enjoy their 30 mints ep. You can get the cd version released by Head Records and  99 hand-numbered tapes released by Throatruiner Records, act fast before they are gone. Highly Recommended.

After their brutal demo, they come back with this new album, the album contains the 2 tracks from the demo, and the new songs are in the same line, sounds sick, heavy as shit. Wish i can see them live one day and feel that fucking hate from their amps. Highly Recommended.

The Osedax – Delayed Response

Tracks: 8
Label: Dullest Records

The Osedax came together in 2008, and they released their debut album “Delayed Response” in 2010, later this year it was released on 2xLP. Their sound has been around years but this guys execute so well the genre that you get into them pretty fast, “These guys are making a name on their local metal scene in the US. And its not hard to see why. Parts Stoner,  Doom, Sludge, Post-Metal and element of Black Metal. What the best up and coming sludge bands should have.” that words comes from the mouth of The Sludgelord. Great debut album, highly recommended.

I like how this band combines doom metal and sludge with hardcore, always creating brutal/crushing tunes. For fans of Black Sheep Wall, Crowbar, Haarp, Salome. Highly Recommended.[Band Request]

Orn was a doom metal trio from Toronto, the band was formed by two guitarists and one drummer, plus a wall of amplifiers. I wish this band were playing, but sadly things never are like we want, so we have 2 long tracks in about 24 minutes, their heavy sound reminds to bands like Conan, Graves At Sea, Cavity, Moloch, etc… Highly Recommended

Omean – Sea God

Origin: USA
Year: 2010
Genre: Doom Metal|Psychedelic|Sludge Metal
Tracks: 4
Label: Unsigned
Buy: Here
Doom time!, Omean are formed by 5 metal heads and they hail from NOLA scene, this is their first ep. It’s like the six time i listen the ep and i can’t write something worth it for the band, but fuck it, i don’t make reviews, just recommendations, from the beginning to the end they keep the same atmosphere, sometimes turns more into a psychedelic doom but definitely sounds sick. If you are looking for some crushing/heavy doom you have to give this a listen. It’s a shame not many people knows about this band. For fans of Salome, Haarp. Black Sheep Wall, Northless or even Neurosis, just to name a few. Highly Recommended [more enjoyable with a swisher]

I’ve been waiting much time for listen/have a record from Atriarch, the first tim i heard about these guys was in youtube, they have a few live videos there with a great quality, but, know they are here with this great record. Atriarch comes from Portland with people from Graves At Sea,Trees, Get Hustle and Final Conflict, they create an slowly, heavy and negative atmosphee, but there’s also more sounds i can’t descifrate yet, but you can hear it and judge yourself. Fans of A Storm of Light, Buried At Sea, Thou, Get this ASAP!. Highly Recommended

It’s time to get stoned! i have days i don’t post anything like this, but this time i come with a 2 track demo from these satan creatures from Virginia…if you think you’ve got pretty stoned, you should listen this demo and think about it twice. Slowly and psychedelic doom with the sings of a girl floating like waves in a dark room full of depression and hate. Tunes to smoke your fat joint in your own cave. Fans of Stonehelm, Cough, Blood Ceremony or Devil’s Bood should give this a listen. Highly Recommended.

Tree of Sores – Tree of Sores

Origin: United Kingdom
Year: 2011
Genre: Crust|Hardcore|Doom Metal|Sludge
Tracks: 6
Label: Witch Hunter Records

“Leeds 3 piece, taking influences from the doomy atmospherics of Neurosis, an underbelly of crust care of Amebix, and an air of recklessness favoured by the likes of Eyehategod. The band create a vibe that is heavy, dark and ambient, with tortured male/female vocals, and a mission to take you to a frightening place. Recorded with Matt (Pumpkin Records) at Brunswick Mill, Manchester in October 2010, and artwork and layout by Black Uroborus, this CD comes in a 4-panel digipack, and is limited to 150 copies.”[Label Request]
