Lantern – DIAVOLERIA

Lantern

Para fans de State of Fear, Doom o Disrupt.

QDRPD is a duo from Le Mans, West-side of France, they play ¨Intrumental rock¨ with electronic elements thrown in the mix. When i read about the electronic elements i thought it was going to be something way different, like some ambient/drone project but this has nothing to do with that, their music also incorporates math-rock, noise and indie elements. If you have been looking for something atypical that no one knows about, you should start listening this two piece band. Highly recommended.

1. Winter/Mute
2. Ocean Liners
3. Dakota
4. Ray
5. Merry New Year
6. + –
7. Sorting Rooms

Never heard about these guys before but once start listening ¨Places¨ i become a fan quickly, you just need 30 seconds to get into this band. They are a four piece band from Milwaukee, WI, their music is a mixture of post-hardcore and screamo influenced by math-rock and post-rock, something betwee Native, Caravels, Kidcrash and Animal Faces.

¨ A Beautiful production captures ALTA’s controlled chaos perfectly. Guitar tapping, massive riffs, ruthless times sigs, gang vocals, screamy vocals, soundscapes, vocals dripping with honestly and passion. You can visualise the band sweating in a small room giving it their all as you listen to this record. Its better to just listen to the record. YOU WILL LOVE IT. ALTA are not messing around. A total DIY punk rock ethic, This is post hardcore, post punk, post whatever – perfection! Honest music played how it should be. No posers here.¨

This record was released in 2012, but on vinyl this year through The Ghost Is Clear, Carucage Records and Edils Recordings, order your copy now before they are gone, also you can get the digital edition as pay what you want via Bandcamp.Highly recommended.

Ritual Mess – 7¨

Origin: United States
Genre: Hardcore / Screamo
Label: Clean Plate Records
“Three songs are finally unveiled from this project that until now had been shrouded in years of secrecy. Jayson Green, Will Killingsworth, Andy Skelly and James Clarke bring you a sound that harkens back to the foundation of Gravity records with nods to such bands as Antioch Arrow, and Swing Kids, but all the while retaining a sound that is completely their own, and brewing over with ferocity.” – Clean Plate Records.
Reading who are the band members you don´t need any other kind of info, you only need to know this is another addictive record that you have to eight times in a row, 6 minutes are not enough. Highly recommended.

Origin: France
Genre: Post-hardcore / Post-rock / Screamo

After smoking like a champ las night and then going to work for a few hours, its time to rest before i leave again. Bien Á Toi was formed last year in Paris by four members, they have already share stage with Suis La Lune and Titan, this is their first ep released and can’t wait for hear newer stuff whenever is done.  If you like bands like Arktika, Aussitot Mort or Mihai Edrish, give a listen to theses guys, highly recommended.

Daighila – Transitions

Origin:Malaysia
Year:2012
Genre:Hardcore / Screamo
Tracks: 9
Label: Cactus Records | Revulsion Records

Daighila formed out in the early 2000 with tons of solid releases. A successful effort of creating their own signature of sound, combining emo violence, powerhouse and hardcore punk tunes can be heard from one releases to another releases. Having a brilliant recording material and a good live set, making them one of the essential Malaysian punk band recently. This CD contains 14 songs in 40 minutes taken from their selected releases from Henceforth EP cassette (2009), split 7″ with Fanzui Xiangfa (2010), split cassette with Circuits (2011), split 7″ with This Is Atlantis (2012), split cassette with Pazahora (2012) and their recent 7″ split release with Grinding Halt. All songs had been re-mastered by Brad Broadright of Audiosiege Sonic Engineering (also doing mastering for High On Fire, Sleep, OFF!, etc) and this CD comes in brilliant gatefold packaging with artwork from Anna Vo (vocalist of now defunct Crux and now becoming a folk singer).

Trachimbrod – A Collection Of Hidden Sketches

Facebook
Origin: Sweden
Year: 2012
Genre: Post-rock / Screamo
Tracks: 9
Label: Truelove / Tokyo Jupiter

Following the 2012 comeback of Suis La Lune and Sore Eyelids debut, here’s another record that continues Sweden screamo year of grace.

“A Collection Of Hidden Sketches” is the first album of Stockholm’s Trachimbrod, while in fact being the third, since the same guys previously released two other works (the 2009 ep “Eclarion” and the full length “Eating People Is Easy”) under the different monicker Come Across Trachimbrod.

While these first efforts were highly promising but somehow lacking in terms of musicianship and production, “A Collection Of Hidden Sketches” finally delivers nine tracks of perfectly crafted swedish screamo, mixed with just the right amount of post-rock and shoegaze influences (reverb and delay-driven guitars, some occasional noodling here and there and so on).

All in all a little gem, laid back when it has to be and in your face when it has to be; fresh and original while at the same time owing something (more like an unavoidable tribute than a copycat) to Suis La Lune. Highly Recommended!

Whenskiesaregray comes from Baltimore, this band transmit emotions through music, apassionated post-hardcore with screamo hints, thats what people is liking nowadays, there’s a scene or a community of people around the world who loves this, including myself, can’t deny that. The albums contains eight songs, they keep you sit just listening to their music, i’ve to say this… when a bass is played like another instrument, really gives another sound to their music, you can’t follow the same patter of the guitarist. Highly recommended.

Fire Spoken by the Buffalo – Air Your Grievence

Origin: United States
Year: 2012
Genre: Post-hardcore | Post-rock | Screamo
Tracks: 4

This is also a band request, but already heard them before and this new ep is something more people should get into. Their first album “Hiatus” lands more into the instrumental post-rock played heavy, if you haven’t heard it, listen the whole album!. The new direction the band took adding shouts and post-hardcore to their mix is something great. If you like emotional tunes with deep instrumental passages, this is definitely of your interest. Highly Recommended.

Cassilis/Locktender split 7"

Facebook [C] | Facebook [L]
 Origin: United States
 Year: 2012
 Genre: Hardcore | Screamo
Tracks: 3
  Label: I.Corrupt.Records
Both bands are interesting projects coming from the states, Cassilis (Make Me, Boys & Sex, The lady is not for burning, etc.) have been around since 2009?, they did a split with Storm The Bastille, then a full lenght and after a year, they drop two new songs in the same line as “My Colors”, just with clean recordings. In the other side is Locktender (Men As Trees), with a song previously released in “Collected”, track that have every element they have take from various genres, such as post-rock/post-metal/hardcore/screamo… all that in just 3:47 mints. I think this should be more like a split ep, it’s short in time to enjoy both bands. Recommended.
I.Corrupt.Records is taking care of this split and it’s up for pre-order now, send a message here to order a copy.

Endamori – Endamori

Origin: United States
 Year: 2012
Genre: Hardcore | Screamo
 Tracks: 6
  Label: Sleeping House
Endamori is made by people from Dolcim (CUTC) and Qui Sumus, this is their first demo ep with 6 songs, great debut as every chaotic band they have been into. Their sound is more hardcore oriented but  they keep playing emotional and chaotic, definitely for fans of Battle of Wolf 359, Storm The Bastille and their past acts like Dolcim or Cease Upon The Capitol. Recommended

Lord Snow – Sovngarde

Facebook
Origin: United States
Year: 2012
Genre: Screamo
Tracks: 4
Label: Unsigned

Lord Snow is made by members from Raw Nerve, Lautrec, Suffix, The New Yorker… looks like they like to play heavy and smoke blunts, “Sonvgarde” clocks  6:26 mints, enough for let us know what they are playing nowadays, their demo ep was what hook me with this band, but i think it was only the beginning… “Sonvgarde” sounds much more cleaner and they add more feedback and chaotic shoutings, highly recommended for those who like Loma Prieta, Ampere or Beau Navire.

Vacanza, an italian band who recently released a debut ep 7″ via La Fine & FalloDischi, both labels from the same country. The 7″ contains just 4 tracks, i wish it has more songs on it but sadly the reality is other, their music goes pulls a variety of genres, post-hardcore/punk/screamo and also they drop some post-punk too, maybe that’s why their songs are pretty catchy… looking forward for future recordings. For fans of Fine Before You Came, Distanti,  Gerda and those kind of bands who have lovely italian vocals. Recommended.[Band request]

Baklavaa comes from Baltimore, their music can sounds weird, but is mostly post-hardcore influenced by screamo/math-rock/noise/punk and any other genre that make it more weird, with weird i don’t mean ugly, it’s just something more creative than the rest of post-hardcore bands are doing, a project you should give a listen… go to their bandcamp and download this for free while you can. After “Orsago” and “Brown Recluse” they come back with a new album after almost 4 years. I enjoyed their first work, it was intense, chaotic and noisy, each album they play at the same level. This new self titled album has been released by Macina Dischi as 10″/Cd and also is for free download, but once you see the lp you want to grab a copy… excellent work, highly recommended.[Label request]

New band from Gainesville, FL, they play an interesting blend of post-hardcore/screamo. This demo contains 4 tracks self recorded at their practice room, it haves a good sound for a diy recording, melodic  post-hardcore with screamo hints here and there, what catch my attention from this demo is a part from “Jain McGonagali” the spoken words with the chaotic shoutings sounds perfect, you should give a listen to this demo, seriously, highly recommended.  Oh, by the way, the band has self released a limited tape edition of the demo, just 100 copies, if you want to buy a copy go to their bandcamp.

Nebraska is a band from Adelaide, Australia. Recently they released their debut ep 7″, i hope they have in mind a full length for this year, because this 3 songs sounds pretty damn good, another good revival from 90’s emo… their music is inspired by bands like Portraits of Past, Shotmaker, Moss Icon,  Sleepytime Trio. I thought no one was interested in play trve emo, nowadays everyone seems to be interested just in “screamo” bands like La dispute and Touche Amore…lol. Highly recommended.[Band request]

Locktender is the same people from Men As Trees, after  a two year hiatus they come back with a new name and a different sound of what MAT was. “Locktender is a cocept focused hardcore band concentrating on artists and their works interpreted through music, lyrics and art. Every album is an artist, every song is a different work.” that’s what the band says and it sounds a bit pretentious, but once you listen their music you get an idea of what these guys want to share with their new band. Looks like the band is going to be busy this year, starting with different splits with Casillis and Brighter Arrows (Mans, Phoenix Bodies, Lautrec), this ep is going to be released as cd/tape… and last but not least, an european tour with Sailing On around July 2012, wish them lucky!.
