Moonlit Sailor – We Come From Exploding Stars

a1235811192_10

Scraps of Tape – Sjatte Vansinnen

Cold Blue Mountain is a five piece band from Chico, California, their music is influenced by doom, sludge, post-metal. QDRPD – Quadrupéde

QDRPD is a duo from Le Mans, West-side of France, they play ¨Intrumental rock¨ with electronic elements thrown in the mix. When i read about the electronic elements i thought it was going to be something way different, like some ambient/drone project but this has nothing to do with that, their music also incorporates math-rock, noise and indie elements. If you have been looking for something atypical that no one knows about, you should start listening this two piece band. Highly recommended.

Achievement House – Heart Anchers

Origin: United States

Genre: Emo / Indie / Shoegaze

Label: Unsigned

Achievement House resides in Fresno, California and their music its something you need to get into this, they released their first ep ¨Volume One¨ last year and i was pretty much into it, a catchy record that reminds me to bands like Sore Eyelids or Moving Mountains, with female vocals that sticks perfectly to the music.

After a year they come back with a new ep that features five tracks, in the same line of their shoegaze mixed with emo/indie rock plus some post-rock  riffs, all together makes a catchy record that can’t be heard only once. ¨Heart Anchers¨ can be downloaded for free, just go to bandcamp and you know the rest. Highly recommended.

Calisota – Varva

Origin: Sweden
Genre: Indie / Pop / Post-rock
Label: Unsigned

Varva is the first single in the Selves trilogy, to be released by Calisota in the fall and winter of 2012. The trilogy explores a transcendent state of mind where the alternative courses your life might havetaken, and the path you did happen to choose, intertwine. It’s a meditation on lives never lived, butalso a celebration of the journey underway.

Calisota started off as Olle Bilius’s side-project to Jeniferever. Searching for a counterweight to long tours, struggling in a band, and the rewarding but sometimes frustrating nature of collaborative creative  processes, the project was a way for Bilius to create something entirely his own. If the first EP, Pine Grove,  was a somewhat tentative experiment, Varva sets a more confident tone -rhythmically, melodically and conceptually. With the Selves trilogy, Bilius has found a distinct voice and is closing in on his vision of what Calisota should sound like: catchy, evocative, and spiritually intriguing.

Suffer Like G Did – Raspberry Ep

Origin: United Kingdom
Genre: Indie / Math-rock / Jazz
Label: Self-released
Found this gem some days ago, since then i’ve been listening constantly this three track ep.
SLGD are an instrumental four-piece based in Essex and London, that’s all i found about them, there´s not a biography or something, who cares… their music is all about.
What these guys manage to do is very technical, doing something between math-rock  and jazz,  also some elements of post-rock or indie, all combined sounds gorgeous. Once you hear this you can´t stop putting repeat. You can go to their bandcamp and stream or buy the digital version, there’s also a 10¨ vinyl edition. For fans of Fago.Sepia, Tenebre or Delta Sleep

Little Pirouettes – Weed Debts

Year:2012
Genre: Emo / Indie / Math-rock
Tracks: 5
Label: Unsigned
Time for twinkle stuff coming from people you already know, Little Pirouettes comes from Philadelphia  and its created by people from Little Kingdoms & Pirouettes, if you are unfamiliar with both bands is time to expand your library, check´em out.
So, weed debts is the debut ep from the band and contains five tracks, it sounds fresh, catchy and addictive, have been listening the record 5-6 times on repeat and i can´t write something sick yet, once again i prove my self i don´t have the skills to make a review… you know what to do know, jump to their bandcamp and download this for free before the free credits are gone. Highly recommended.

Sport – Colors

Origin:France
Year:2012
Genre:Emo / Indie / Punk
Tracks: 13
Label: Pike Records
So, the blog has been forgotten for a few days, music as heroin is giving me some stress when i check the email, a huge list of band requests is waiting for me, not sure when all of them will be posted, so don´t mind if i take some more days/weeks to post your stuff, anyway, the past year i recommended the demo by Sport, an emo/punk rock band from Lyon, France, you should give a listen if that’s your kind of music. In the last days of july the band released their first full length containing thirteen songs, using olympics dates to name your songs is the weirdest thing i´ve ever seen.
If you read constantly this blog, you know i don´t do reviews, just recommendations, so i don´t give a fuck if you think this entry is lazy as fuck… highly recommended.

Quadrilles – Inuit Ep

Origin: United Kingdom
Year:2012
Genre:Indie / Math-rock / Post-rock
Tracks: 8
Label: Unsigned
Long time ago i posted the demo from this band, it was some math-pop music but now this new ep sounds much better, their sound has been pulled pretty well, the right  doses of indie/math-rock, adding post-rock elements to the mix. Inuit contains four new tracks and also a remix of each song, so you have the band experimenting with their own music, how amazing is that?… give a listen, highly recommended.

Foxing – Old Songs

Origin: United States
 Year:2012
Genre:Emo / Indie / Math-rock / Post-rock
Tracks: 3
Label: DIY
Found this gem thanks to a band request, thanks for send us your stuff. This band will be of your interest if you are into emo/indie stuff, but their music don´t limit to only that genres, they add to their mix elements of math-rock/post-rock, twinkly music to your ears. ¨Old Songs¨ clocks around 17 minutes, the record is divided on three songs, this ep introduce you the music the band is doing, it´s only the beginning  of the band and i´m sure they´ll have a great response from the audience. Their next release will be a split with Send Away Strange through Carucage Records, so lets keep an eye with this band for future recordings, can´t wait to listen a full length from these guys. Highly recommended.

Sore Eyelids – Sore Eyelids

Origin:Sweden
Year:2012
Genre:Emo / Indie / Punk / Shoegaze
Tracks: 10
Label:Fasaden Records | Serene Records
Sore Eyelids comes from Sweden and its a band made by members from Suis La Lune, if you haven’t heard their  old ep (2009) or don’t know who they are, just download this album. It’s mid year and a lot of releases has seen the light, don’t knew this guys were working in a new album till they uploaded a previous track from their upcoming album, since that i’ve been waiting for it and if it was worth the wait. This band lands btw emo/indie/shoegaze with clean vocals, music with deep emotions, love how they manage each influence to sound unique. Highly recommended.

The Soil & The Sun – Wake Up, Child

Origin: United States
Year: 2011
 Genre: Indie | Folk
Tracks: 10
  Label: Unsigned
The Soil & The Sun comes from Grand Rapids, Michigan and they have been playing since 2009?, “Wake Up, Child” is their debut album, the lp includes work they have been doing since they were a two-piece band, now is a eight-piece community of musicians, they have included oboe, violin, cello, guitars, accordion, percussion and piano “Complex harmonies, layered melodies, and driving rhythms. The careful orchestration and intentional instrumentation will speak to your soul.” That’s what the band says and i couldn’t agree more, give a listen to the record and you’ll see. Highly recommended (click here to download their previous work).

Legs Dead And Well – Spring 2012

Origin: United States
Year: 2012

Leds Dead And Well comes from Oklahoma, they have been around since 2009… discography so far: Demo ’09, Fall 2009, split with Que Suerte! (2010) and split with I Had Plans (2011).  I honestly think “Spring 2012” could be their best stuff recorded to date, i like their older stuff, they managed well to create emo/post-hardcore incorporating post-rock but on “Spring 2012” they mange better the writing skills with all the genres mentioned, just give a listen, highly recommended.

The band is formed since 2004, i first heard this band with “Critical Meat” and i think that was years ago, like 5 years i believe, loved that album… but days ago they released their newest album,  containing 10 songs with a more pulled sound. Recommended.

Marathon – In Between The Seasons

Something you miss from last year… Marathon is a five piece band from New Orleans, Louisiana. They play something between emo/indie/math-rock and even some post-rock hints, a good project you should listen, don’t know if they are still active or if they have something new to come, discover this at bandcamp and i’ve been listening for a couple of times now… recommended!

Colaars – Wood Arsenal

Origin: Ukraine
Year: 2012
Genre: Indie | Math-rock | Shoegaze
Tracks: 5
Label: Unsigned
Discovered this band recently, have put this ep more than two times this sunday,  i really get into it. Their music is experimental, they play danceable and catchy riffs all the time, at times it sounds more like dreamy post-rock meets shoegaze, but that’s just for a few seconds because math-rock have a place in their music. Give them a listen, get a break from all that downtuned and angry hardcore, depression it’s not a life style. Highly recommended.

Delta Sleep – Mega Hits Vol.1

Origin: UK
Year: 2012
Genre: Emo | Indie | Math-rock | Post-hardcore | Post-rock
Tracks: 3
Label: Box social records.
Not available yet.
They fucking confuse me, don’t know if this has been recorded at 12′ or 85′, but i’m pretty you’ll like this 3 songs. For those who are unfamiliar with the band, Delta Sleep comes from Canterbury and they were formed around 08′, but at the end of 2010 it was released their debut ep by Box Social. Dude, these guys play interesting music, they have the perfect mix, math-rock/post-hardcore/emo and much more things you can define while you listen them, wish this is just a preview of what is coming because i want to hear more from these guys. Highly recommended.

Agent Fresco – A Long Time Listening

Origin: Iceland
Year: 2010
Genre: Experimental | Pop | Rock | Math
Label: Record Records

Web: Bandcamp

Iceland. This could be the whole review for this masterpiece cause I think real music lovers know how oddly brilliant like “every single” Icelandic artist is. I was first listening to Agent Fresco’s EP “Lightbulb Universe” (which you can also find on this blog) at my brother’s place almost two years ago and I was like “Uhm, what the hell!?”, in a positive way! Anyway, the EP was/is genius but this full length kills it! All the tracks but one off of the EP are also on this record, re-recorded, fresher sound, here and there more guitars, keys and less drums (I was kinda disappointed about the chorus in “Eyes Of A Cloud Catcher” though cause there “lacks” the accent with the double bass to the snare at one point…). So, they changed/added some stuff – which is still absolutely OK for me – and added 12 more mindblowing songs. I thought they would begin the record with the intro and first track from the EP, I’m glad they did not, the new “intro” – called “Anemoi” has one of the most beautiful piano riffs, sick polyrhythmic drumming and of course Arnór Dan’s unbelievable intense vocals! I think this really is my favourite track off of the record, though it doesn’t change that much, just growing a lot! OK, I could write about every single song now, but – of course – I won’t. I try to come to an end soon. Agent Fresco play Pop, they play Jazz, Electronic Dance music (“Implosions” gives me goosebumps every single time), Rock, Funk, Metal, Math-whatever, Agent Fresco play what they like, every song is a one of a kind and brilliant in it’s own way. All in all, marvelous musicianship all the time, no surprise they won (and will win, hehe) like a million music prices. I am by the way listening to it with headphones at the moment – having a nice Whisky – and just realized I do not listen to these guys enough! The title track “A Long Time Listening” is playing right now and I am singing along, such a hymn! I JUST LOVE THIS BAND!
Serious, if you like music at all, GIVE THIS A LISTEN! I have no idea how anyone could dislike this, at all! HIGH-HIGH-HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Thanks to Arnór for wanting us to put this up! BUY!!!
They’ll be playing SXSW and Canadian Music Fest this year by the way (note: unfortunately they had to cancel those gigs)!

Seila Chiara – Rive

Genre: Emo|Indie|Post-rock
Tracks: 7
Label: Communication Is Not Words|Kid Sister Everything|Moment of Collapse

“Lyon based Seila Chiara report back. The waiting time was worth it. Three years in the making, the new output entitled “rive” contains seven brand-new and completely self-produced songs.Compared with the older stuff “rive” is more atmospheric, catchy and frisky. The guitar-lines seem to be influenced by bands as Sed Non Satiata and At The Drive In.Significant beside the brilliant overlaid guitar-melodies are the slant vocals. During the seven songs the band takes the listener on a journey back in the 90’s emodays with all the lovely melancholy to built bridges to nowadays post-hardcore with hints of jazzy ambient passages. The result is an innovative songwriting that needs some more listening runs before this 10inch-vinyl completely crestfalls.” From Moment of Collapse. Give a listen, i highly recommend this.

Band request. I’m to lazy too write some stuff about this right now, so:
“A complete departure from 2011’s “The Golden Trough,” Use Value’s new record, “Inaccuracy Vs. Confusion” finds the band exploring more melodic and structurally refined territory. The album explores the indie guitar rock tradition rooted in the 1990s in a way that is both fresh and familiar, incorporating subtle elements of prog/math-rock and post-hardcore.”

Really loved this EP from the beginning. Great guitar work, catchy basslines and tight drumming gives this a sweet atmosphere, it’s like some twinkly Post-Rock here and there. And this is not a copy of a copy, or at least I do not know a band similar to Vasudeva. If you like Talons, This Town Needs Guns and all that mathy stuff, you should fall in love with this one. Nine new tracks, 40 minutes of lovely music… for those who already know them, you should skip this awkward “intro” and click the download button, even those new listeners just skip this shit and start listening this. Post-Rock is dead, long live September Malevolence…. lol. Highly Recommended. By the way, great job SM.

Tracks: 3

Limbs began playing together in 2005, over the years they released three ep’s and two full lenghts, in the spring of 2010 they released their last ep “Posthumous”. I really think this band deserves much more listeners, i’ve time listening this and i realized i haven’t post it. So, if you want something for chillaxing on this grey sunday [here it’s grey, perfect weather], you should really give a listen to this ep, sometimes it sounds more like indie/math-pop, that’s what it gives the perfect touch to their music, it’s a shame this band has quit. Highly Recommended. Marionette ID – Alluvion

Origin: Hungary
Year: 2011
Genre: Indie|Post-Rock
Tracks: 7
Label: Fluttery Records
Buy: Here
Thanks to Akos from Fluttery Records for share this record with MAH. For those who are unfamiliar with the band, they started in 2008 and they come from Budapest/Tatabanya, Hungary, the band is formed by Tomi, Peter, Akos & Mate. I though i heard this band before but i’m wrong, i got a really good impression by them with this record titled “Alluvion”, the full length has 7 songs and is about 43 minutes of experimental landscapes, they go from the deepest and saddest riffs from post-rock to an indie thing and when all goes more heavier it sounds more like post-metal, they know how to interact with those genres. Can’t think in similar bands, but if you like those swedish post-rock bands who have vocals, you should check out this gem. Highly Recommended. [BandRequest]

Over It. is basically Evan Thomas Weiss with the help of other talented people. I remember heard II.OI. time ago, but at that time it was more folk/indie music, now it sounds different from what i thought this was going to be, well, maybe i forget this band and i’ve much time without listen it till today and i got impressed of how good this full length is.  Most of you should know him, this is his debut lp, so i have nothing else to say just download this. Girl Scouts is a band coming from Glen Thrills, PA formed by three dudes, obviously they come from other bands, but the main thing is how this band sound, right?. To be honest, i’m getting a little bit bored from those bands who sound similar to algernon cadwallader, this town needs guns and all that bunch of bands where people take influences to make their own music, i’m cool with that, but sometimes it sounds like the copy of the copy…no offense. Girl Scouts is doing something pretty good, not unique, but i bet you gonna love this project, it sounds fresh and fun, i’ve been listening this 2 songs on repeat like 1 hour and i want more! ha, they will release something pretty soon, so keep your eyes peeled for that Ep 7″!. Fans of Hightide Motel, Algernon Cadwallader, midwest Pen Pals, etc. Highly Recommended!. [Band Request]

This came to my ears thanks to a request. The split starts with Deer Leap, a band from Windham, NH formed by 3 dudes, their music sounds pretty good, something btw emo/post-rock like many bands have been doing it, but they definitely have something more to offer than all the other bunch of bands who play in the same line,  gonna check out their past/future works. In the other side are The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid[largest name ever], i already know this band by their previous work and i’ve to say this 4 new tracks is their best stuff so far, if you like their past stuff you gonna love this! seriously. This is second album from Solander, i don’t know much about the band because i discovered yesterday and since then, i can’t stop playing this record.  The band features the formerl\ drummer from Scraps The Tape plus 2 other talented people who mange to  create a great atmosphere between folk, indie and pop…In addition to this there are also some unconventional banjo playing, prepared metallophones, haunting organs, distorted hand-claps, pianos, music-boxes and lots of other goodies spread out over the album, a real master piece!. I’m not to familiar with this genre, so this time i’m not going to say “FFO”, download it and then buy it. Highly Recommended

I’ve been listening this record everyday since i downloaded this like 1 week ago, damn, i’m pretty psyched with this band. Once again Triste Records is releasing a beauty, this is gettin pressed in 2xLP… sick!. Crash of Rinos are from Derby, UK, their music put you back to the 90s with their old fresh sound. I might not know what exactly happens at 90s and shit, because i was a baby back in those days, but i can say, this is so far the best emo shit i’ve been listening this year, if you like bands like American Football, Braid or newer bands like By Surprise or Snowing, you should really give a listen to this, they don’t sound like the mentioned bands, i’m just giving an idea of how they sound, these dewds are building their own sound. Highly Recommended.

Sorry for don’t post in a week or even more, sorry to all those who send me their request. Well, today i go out of work earlier, so that’s the reason i’m posting something haa. Anyway, i got a message from this band like 10 days ago, this is the first listen i give to this ep, and oh man, you just remember the good days of emo, punk and fun…5 tracks of twinkle guitars, sings to sing along, a sound between emo and indie, but sometimes it sounds a lil bit to that UK math-rock everybody loves. I never heard before about this band, now i’m going to download their newer stuff, by the way, you can download it directly from bandcamp or mediafire, both ep’s. Fans of Teenage Cool Kids, Algernon Cadwallader, Snowing, etc. Recommended![Band Request]

I got into this thanks a friend, fuck, i thought they were from france haha i don’t know why, but then i saw into their fb and i discovered they are from CA, that’s a good thing because maybe in the near future i could see them live? ha, not really, because no one’s interested to play in tijuana, however, Achievement House plays emo with some interesting guitar riffs,catchy/mathy/delayed and twinlky stuff is what you get from each song, they have boy/girl vocals, this is something that will caught your attention. For fans of Sore Eyelids, Moving Mountains, American Football.[Highly Recommended]
