Kerretta – His Streets of Money, Her Mouth of Gold

KerretaBandcamp | Facebook | Comprar\Buy

21.04. Besancon (F), Les Passagers Du Zinc
22.04. Brussels (B), DNA
23.04. Aarau (CH), Kiff
24.04. Chemnitz (GER), AC 17
25.04. Metz (F), Young Team Festival
26.04. Mainz (GER), Haus Mainusch

Moonlit Sailor – We Come From Exploding Stars

a1235811192_10

Scraps of Tape – Sjatte Vansinnen

X Suns – The Greys

a1203020718_10

HANDLINGNOISE – S/T

HANDLINGNOISE was founded in Helsinki, Finland as an ambient/noise –project in 2007. It was started for a one-off performance at a club for experimental music. Shortly after the concert we were joined by a drummer, which opened up a load of new possibilities. Due to our different musical backgrounds and influences that range from minimal electronic music to metal our own style became very multifaceted.

We wanted to develop a distinctive sound also from the production point of view, so we started recording material on our own in 2008. In the beginning we did this at training spaces and summer cottages using our own and some borrowed equipment. As the project evolved and we realized that these recordings were growing into an album, we also went to record in a studio. We finished work on our debut album in the spring of 2012 and it was mastered by Harris Newman at Greymarket Mastering, Montreal, Canada.

Stellar Young-Everything At Once

People are going to download your music one way or another, so why not give them the highest quality download with the option to pay?” says Erik Flora (guitar/vocals). Erik goes on to explain that free downloads with the option to pay is the direction the music industry has headed. Bands such as Radiohead and Wilco have paved the road for this movement. “Since the digital release is basically free we wanted to add some value to the physical release” explains John Glenn. The physical release of Everything at Once contains musical interludes as well as a booklet with illustrations by Amanda Marie Eilis King (of AMEK Studios). “This album is more of a cohesive thought than what we’ve done in the past” says Dave Parker. “By using a centralized theme, we aimed to create an experience when you listen to the whole album front to back which has also been the movement in our live show.” The physical album will be released in early January, 2013.

Everything at Once was mostly tracked in the band’s apartment and produced by Dave Parker just like their last release Madison. However, this time the drums were recorded at Applehead Studios in Woodstock, NY and all of the tracks were mixed by Michael Birnbaum and Chris Bittner. Michael and Chris are known for producing bands like Straylight Run, Coheed and Cambria, The Sleeping, and many more. Stellar Young is a prime example of the DIY (Do-It-Yourself) band. Between independently releasing Everything at Once, successfully raising funds on Kickstarter for a mini shuttle bus, releasing/recording their sophomore album Madison, hard work and dedication would be the best way to describe their music.

Gummidge – Sick Again

Gummidge is an Irish three piece band formed by people from Trenches, Easpa Measa and Only Fumes and Corpses, this new project doesn’t sound like their past crusty/hardcore projects, they do a blend of post-punk similar to bands like  Shellac, Young Widows, Gods and Queens, etc. So if you’re seeking for something new in the genre, give a listen to this guys, recommended.

Early Mammal – Demon or Saint?

Early Mammal started on February 1st 2012 in an old butter factory in Camberwell, South London, called Dropout (London’s true home of sludge and noise). Formed by Rob Herian (ex-Elks http://www.heavyplanet.net/2011/10/new-band-to-burn-one-to-elks.html) on guitar and vocals, Ben Davies (ex-85 Bears) on drums, and with the prog-stylings of Turkish born Deniz Belendir on organ and synths, the band spent hours jamming heavy blues, space-rock and psyche with the likes of Captain Beefheart, High Rise, White Hills and Hawkwind on the brain, and in September 2012 finally finished recording their first album, Horror at Pleasure, which is looking for a 2013 release.
It’s head-down-rock; it’s fuzzed-out and heavy. But there’s also something wrong in the story. That’s what the last few months have created in Early Mammal and that’s what you get. That’s what we all get because there’s something not right about any of us, anywhere. All our stories are fucked. Early Mammal is coming from somewhere else. It’s expected and it’s telling you something.

Alta – Places

United States | 2013 |  TGIC/Carucage/Edils Recordings

1. Winter/Mute
2. Ocean Liners
3. Dakota
4. Ray
5. Merry New Year
6. + –
7. Sorting Rooms

Never heard about these guys before but once start listening ¨Places¨ i become a fan quickly, you just need 30 seconds to get into this band. They are a four piece band from Milwaukee, WI, their music is a mixture of post-hardcore and screamo influenced by math-rock and post-rock, something betwee Native, Caravels, Kidcrash and Animal Faces.

¨ A Beautiful production captures ALTA’s controlled chaos perfectly. Guitar tapping, massive riffs, ruthless times sigs, gang vocals, screamy vocals, soundscapes, vocals dripping with honestly and passion. You can visualise the band sweating in a small room giving it their all as you listen to this record. Its better to just listen to the record. YOU WILL LOVE IT. ALTA are not messing around. A total DIY punk rock ethic, This is post hardcore, post punk, post whatever – perfection! Honest music played how it should be. No posers here.¨

This record was released in 2012, but on vinyl this year through The Ghost Is Clear, Carucage Records and Edils Recordings, order your copy now before they are gone, also you can get the digital edition as pay what you want via Bandcamp.Highly recommended.

1. Pulse
2. Breath
3. Aer
4. Galeno
5. Pneuma
6. Spirit
7. L’ora del corpo spaccato

Pneumologic is the first album done by Ornaments, official released on February 5 Cd/Vinyl, meanwhile you can listen the whole thing at bandcamp. The new album contains 7 songs, to date i think this are their best recordings, i know each record used to sound different and with a variant of genres thrown in the mix, on this record they use the same skills to create ¨doomed post-rock¨…  doesn’t exist such genre but so far is the best way to describe their sound. Highly recommended.

Kowloon Walled City – Container Ships

cover_2

Origin: United States

Year: 2012

Tracks: 7

Label: Brutal Panda Records

Well this record took me by surprise because i didn’t knew this band was going to drop a new album soon. Anyway, their new album its hard to tag, it doesn’t sound like something i’ve heard but it haves elements of sludge, noise and even post-rock on it, their music is mean to put the listener in the same place as bands like Neurosis or Cavity, making of their music landscapes in your mind, when you find this kind of records you gotta share it with more people.

¨Container Ships¨is definitely a record that could fight a place in the top list of the year, once you start listening you’ll understand why, words can´t describe the feeling of their music, just get into this gem. Highly recommended.

As Mountains is a post-rock  project from Hasselt, Belgium. they were founded in the summer of 2011 with members and ex-members of The Black Su Love, The Well-Bred Hippoes and A Strength Within. Their music can be compared with bands like Caspian, EITS, Mogwai, This Will Destroy You, etc, etc., instrumental post-rock with hidden feelings on each riff played, once you start hearing you can describe their music as  the air stream that leads to the precipice of a cold mountain. A must listen for fans of the bands mentioned above, the complete ep can be streamed at bandcamp or you can buy this for 3 euros. Recommended.

Bien Á Toi – Diriger, Séduire, Convaincre

Origin: France
Genre: Post-hardcore / Post-rock / Screamo
Label: Unsigned
After smoking like a champ las night and then going to work for a few hours, its time to rest before i leave again. So, i just came back and receive new recommendations, it never stops, its cool listen new shit everyday, anyway, its time for another french act that plays instrumental post-hardcore with highly post-rock influences, a huge list of bands who play this blend of music can be made but each one has their own technics, that’s what make interest each project. Bien Á Toi was formed last year in Paris by four members, they have already share stage with Suis La Lune and Titan, this is their first ep released and can’t wait for hear newer stuff whenever is done.  If you like bands like Arktika, Aussitot Mort or Mihai Edrish, give a listen to theses guys, highly recommended.

Calisota – Varva

Origin: Sweden
Genre: Indie / Pop / Post-rock
Label: Unsigned

Varva is the first single in the Selves trilogy, to be released by Calisota in the fall and winter of 2012. The trilogy explores a transcendent state of mind where the alternative courses your life might havetaken, and the path you did happen to choose, intertwine. It’s a meditation on lives never lived, butalso a celebration of the journey underway.

Calisota started off as Olle Bilius’s side-project to Jeniferever. Searching for a counterweight to long tours, struggling in a band, and the rewarding but sometimes frustrating nature of collaborative creative  processes, the project was a way for Bilius to create something entirely his own. If the first EP, Pine Grove,  was a somewhat tentative experiment, Varva sets a more confident tone -rhythmically, melodically and conceptually. With the Selves trilogy, Bilius has found a distinct voice and is closing in on his vision of what Calisota should sound like: catchy, evocative, and spiritually intriguing.

Blueneck – Epilogue

Origin: United Kingdom
Genre: Post-rock
Label: Denovali Records
The fourth album from the british post-rock band, landing into the same melancholic post-rock but this time is instrumental. Attwood (vocalist) says “”Epilogue” is intended as both the start and end of a number of distinct creative periods. It’s a bookend to our three previous full-length vocal albums, a statement of intent on our parallel soundtrack work, and a means of clearing our collective minds before we started work on our new recording. It’s our intention that the Blueneck you hear in the future will be markedly different to what you hear on this release¨.
Epilogue contains eight songs and is able as cd & lp through Denovali.

Bosse De Nage – III

Origin: United States
Year: 2012
Genre: Black Metal / Post-rock
Label: Profund Lore Records
I’m new to this band , have seen the record posted in some other blogs but never have the chance to give a listen until someone recommended this on the music as heroin page and also cause they are doing a split with Deafheaven.
¨III¨ is their third release and like i said before, i start listening the band a few days ago but have listen this record more than 8 times and can´t get enough of it, even if you are not a black metal fan you´ll get into this easily without any problem, their influences goes from post-rock to early 90´s indie and punk… the result is intense and atmospheric.
Six tracks in about 47 minutes, without pauses between each song, probably that keep you listening this 3 times in a row. Definetely a master piece that can´t be missed, highly recommended.

We´re All Ghosts – Self titled

Origin: United States
Year: 2012
Genre: Ambient / Post-rock / Shoegaze
Tracks: 5
Label: Unsigned
I´ll start posting requests again, can´t say in upcoming days because what if i don´t do that or don´t have the time, anyway, today this came as request and catches my attention, the ep starts with a combination of both sounds, a shoegazing riff in the back while an emotional riff ascends, it turns emotional and intense the music created, they don´t keep shoegazing all the time, intense post-rock played with a heavy percussion sound, i think the drummer just need to play a bit more heavy at parts, but it doesn´t sound bad, lets see what makes this band in the future, this are their first recordings, would like to hear their next stuff  when is done. Definitely for fans of The Farewell Monument, Giants or EITS. Recommended.

Quadrilles – Inuit Ep

Origin: United Kingdom
Year:2012
Genre:Indie / Math-rock / Post-rock
Tracks: 8
Label: Unsigned
Long time ago i posted the demo from this band, it was some math-pop music but now this new ep sounds much better, their sound has been pulled pretty well, the right  doses of indie/math-rock, adding post-rock elements to the mix. Inuit contains four new tracks and also a remix of each song, so you have the band experimenting with their own music, how amazing is that?… give a listen, highly recommended.

Kafabindünya – Obi

Origin: Turkey
Year: 2012
Genre:Experimental / Post-rock
Tracks: 11
Label: Peyote Müzik
Kafabindünya is a post-rock band from Istanbul, Turkey, they say they´re  not your typical lovely post-rock band,¨ Denying the so called moody and repetitive harmonic structure of most post-rock bands, kafabindünya focuses on experimenting with subjects like composition and feeling in music. According to kafabindünya, ordinary songs with lyrics limit the story that the listener imagines, by the content of the lyrics. kafabindünya composes instrumental music because they want people to build their own stories and use their music as the soundtrack of their own fiction, only influenced by the song’s name¨. Highly recommended.

Foxing – Old Songs

Origin: United States
 Year:2012
Genre:Emo / Indie / Math-rock / Post-rock
Tracks: 3
Label: DIY
Found this gem thanks to a band request, thanks for send us your stuff. This band will be of your interest if you are into emo/indie stuff, but their music don´t limit to only that genres, they add to their mix elements of math-rock/post-rock, twinkly music to your ears. ¨Old Songs¨ clocks around 17 minutes, the record is divided on three songs, this ep introduce you the music the band is doing, it´s only the beginning  of the band and i´m sure they´ll have a great response from the audience. Their next release will be a split with Send Away Strange through Carucage Records, so lets keep an eye with this band for future recordings, can´t wait to listen a full length from these guys. Highly recommended.

Trachimbrod – A Collection Of Hidden Sketches

Facebook
Origin: Sweden
Year: 2012
Genre: Post-rock / Screamo
Tracks: 9
Label: Truelove / Tokyo Jupiter

Following the 2012 comeback of Suis La Lune and Sore Eyelids debut, here’s another record that continues Sweden screamo year of grace.

“A Collection Of Hidden Sketches” is the first album of Stockholm’s Trachimbrod, while in fact being the third, since the same guys previously released two other works (the 2009 ep “Eclarion” and the full length “Eating People Is Easy”) under the different monicker Come Across Trachimbrod.

While these first efforts were highly promising but somehow lacking in terms of musicianship and production, “A Collection Of Hidden Sketches” finally delivers nine tracks of perfectly crafted swedish screamo, mixed with just the right amount of post-rock and shoegaze influences (reverb and delay-driven guitars, some occasional noodling here and there and so on).

All in all a little gem, laid back when it has to be and in your face when it has to be; fresh and original while at the same time owing something (more like an unavoidable tribute than a copycat) to Suis La Lune. Highly Recommended!

Arktika – Symmetry

Origin:Germany
Year:2012
Genre:Post-rock
Tracks: 5
Label:Narshardaa Records
Arktika is back with their third album released by Narshardaa, contains five new songs, 40 minutes of atmospheric, deep, emotional music. A description made by the band: ¨The sound of Arktika is still very standalone: elements of post-rock mix with heavy sludge parts, glimpses of 90es Emocore are enhanced with deep at- mospheric melodies. The vocals sound angry and desperate while the lyrics deal with personal issues¨. An amazing album you can´t miss, highly recommended.

The End of The Ocean – In Excelsis

Origin:United States
Year: 2012
Genre:Post-rock
Tracks: 4
 Label:Futurerecordings
New album by these guys, actually the third record by them, “In Excelsis” contains five songs, this is just a previous to the complete album, it needs to be heard by more people. This have an amazing sound, they play instrumental Post-rock, for fans of This Will Destroy You, Giants, The Seven Mile Journey or even Ef. Highly recommended.

Giranice – Giranice

Origin: Spain
Year: 2011
Genre: Instrumental / Post-rock
Tracks: 5
Label: Unsigned

“Musicians from different specialties have come together to create a new project. The rhythm and the dynamics change both subtly and drastically in the same song, always guided by the melody. Instead of delivering a message, the will to convey an emotion leads to an instrumentalistic music. To achieve this, guitars based on rock are directed by a violin.”
Highly recommended.

Joy Wants Eternity – The Fog Is Rising

Origin: United States
Year: 2012
Genre: Post-rock / Shoegaze
Tracks: 6
Label: ?
JWE comes from Seattle, Washington and they are active since 2003, this is their second album after five years of silence, only three releases and they have earned a lot of listeners. Instrumental post-rock influenced shoegaze, that’s what you get from this guys and you’ll not be disappointed. Highly recommended.

The Pirate Ship Quintet – Rope for No-Hopers

Origin: United Kingdom
Year: 2012
Genre: Post-rock
Tracks: 5
Label: Denovali Records
Five years after their debut ep was released, they come with their first full length, released through Denovali Records and mastered by Marcus Lindberg (Cult of Luna). “The five tracks on this record move through the richly melodic foundations of contemporary classical and minimalist rock. The swelling dark atmospherics give way to moments of brute force, punctuated by low level, desperate vocals. It is a little heavier and more technically diverse than the debut E.P and feels like a considered and organic evolution of the band’s method. My list of best album of the year is getting larger each month, looks like this year is full of good music. Get into it! highly recommended.
